Oh, Dear

As opposed to the bunk of man causes global warming, something which might be of concern:

AUSTRALIA could be hit by an earthquake measuring seven on the Richter scale because the plate we are on is breaking up, research has found.

“This stress can produce earthquakes up to magnitude seven about every 30 years,” said Prof Michael Sandiford, from the university’s School of Earth Sciences.

  1. Interesting time to release their findings.

    Another round of grants, anyone?

    COMMENT:
This prediction is presumably from arm waving and other qualitative guesses based on plate tectonics.

I have yet to come across any explanation why a shallow epicentre, of a rather localised focus, managed to result in 750 km strike slip that is interpreted, read interpreted, not observed, to have caused the Sumatran earthquake and subsequent tsnumani.

As Colonel Potter would have concluded - Horsehocks!

  2. I did throw in the `might’, relying on saying whether the claim is true or not. That it is bunk, aaaaaargh.

It would be a good idea if the boosters of bunk were to do the decent thing, repair the damage they are doing to science by, resigning and just concentrate on what they are good at, writing children’s stories.Despicable, it really is.Faugh.
