Rebellion

Subverting the Dominant Paradigm since 1971

Bigger than a Very Big Big Thing

Wow, I must have made it to the top in Blogging because I have been approched to write for this site about the local elections in Queensland in a few weeks time. For those that don’t know, or have an American’s attention span, I am helping a mate of mine run for a council slot in the brand spanking new Moreton Bay Regional Council.

This is the slapped together abomination that was foisted upon the residents and ratepayers of three different councils that were ticking along very nicely, thank you very much, and now for the grand total of at least $58,000,000 , we get one council with an area that would kill your average brown dog.

So my vitriol seeped posts concerning the local election will soon be generating scorn from a whole new set of Lefties over at Qld Decides. Yes, I do feel like a bit of a token Conservative in a swamp of lefties over there, but lets face it, you would want a little bit of common sense in a group blog and you sure as hell aren’t going to get it with that lot by themselves.

Still posting here, but I may start to bore you with more local election stuff that you all couldn’t give two pinches of shit on a dark night about. Bear with me, normal programming to resume soon.

  2. I live in the Pine Rivers Shire and have for the past 5 months sought a way to fight Forced Amalgamations. The three shires immediately around me, including mine, returned a NO to amalgamation of local councils. Queensland’s overall response was 77% NO.

BoVo - Boycott Voting, is the answer. On 15 March 2008 election day, you shall save YOUR Shires by NOT VOTING via Notice of Voter’s Veto. All the details on how to do so are on my site.

  3. QLDPCS, I agree with you, but feel the worst possible outcome is for people to neglect their responsibility to vote. It is not a right, it is a responsibility and in the end, all that will happen is that the new amalgum will begin and you will feel a phyric victory.

Seriously, whilst I am with you 100%, the only way forward is to get rid of every previous councillor and elect brand new ones who can fight to have the situation reversed. That is the only way we can get a viable outcome.

  4. Sisyphus, in my defence I offer example A, a game that goes for 1 hour, but takes 4 hours to complete as you have to constantly review the rules and any play that takes longer than 30 seconds might have people turning off.

Example B, a game that I can only assume is much more interesting to you when you are drunk because, lets face it, its like cricket for the intellectually retarded amongst us.

Example C, some people actually think that Shrillery is a viable candidate for the President of the United States. This naturally means that they have the kind of memory of the last time she discoloured the White House, that you would normally expect in a Goldfish. And a particularly dim gold fish at that.

Feel free to rebut. And thanks for popping down. :-)

  7. Never mind mate, it will take too long to explain and lets face it, you have probably forgotten what we were talking about by now ;-) I’ve chucked a link up to your site, very very cool stuff, mate.

  8. Rebellion, de-centralisation is not a reality, or an easy task, but what I have posted on my site by way of an alternative is. Forced Amalgamations is not the only issue I have been fighting, just the current one.

One of the ways forward would be to have brand new Councillors and Mayors but you know who is running for the positions in the new Regional Councils at the moment, don’t you? I would like a new State Government as well, but that isn’t going to happen, yet.

  9. Yeah mate, but at the end of the day, all you will achieve by not turning up will be a fine and a moral victory that will be scorned and overlooked by Captain Bligh and her corrupt cronies. The only story on Sunday 16th March will be who won and where. There may be a little bit of background, but that will just be filler.

No, the only way to send a message to George St is to elect people who won’t toe the party line and will kick up a stink about the amalgamation. People who will argue and keep the story alive until we can get rid of this corrupt Qld Junta. Otherwise, we are going to be stuck with the corrupt Captain Bligh and her cotterie for many years to come.
